Robert Yates, Sunnen, Team Up For 2012 ‘Rev It Up’ Raffle Engine Build

Money raised during The “Rev-It-Up Raffle,” sponsored by Sunnen and Robert Yates Racing, was donated to the Livestrong Foundation.

After working hard for three days to build a 600 hp and 495 ft-lbs. NASCAR-approved spec engine valued at more than $28,500 legendary engine builder Robert Yates offered apologies that only one person could take the engine home from the recent IMIS Show.

Nancy Plagman of Wizmo, Inc., in Bloomington, MN, held the winning ticket, drawn by Yates on the last day of the International Motorsports Industry Show. Tickets for the raffle were sold for $2.50 each, and the total contribution to Livestrong was $11,385, according to Bob Davis, Global Communications Manager for Sunnen Products Company.

The NASCAR-Approved Spec Engine is an alternative for competitors in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour, and NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. It is also an option for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at select tracks.

The foundation of the NASCAR-Approved Spec Engine is a production GM LS2 block (6.0L / 4.000) with LS2 CNC ported heads. Fully assembled the 364 cubic inch engine weighs around 415 pounds and produces approximately 610 hp and 500 ft-lbs of torque. Its components include products from leading industry suppliers.

The Spec Engine is not a “sealed” engine and NASCAR rules do allow teams to assemble, disassemble and rebuild the Spec Engine but no modifications to the components are allowed other than what is stated in the current rule books.
