Performance Anxiety and Other Business Issues

Performance Anxiety and Other Business Issues

You don’t have to be Matlock to recognize that the photo accompanying this column is not Dave Wooldridge’s. Thanks to Dave’s magnificent performance serving this industry over the past 18 years, he has been promoted to publisher of Engine Builder. I have been lucky enough to take over as editor.

Nervous? Me? You betcha! Follow-ing in the footsteps of greatness is always daunting. Don’t you think second President of the United States John Adams felt some pressure to perform when he succeeded the George Washington? Or the guy who was responsible to keep inventing things after Thomas Edison retired? What about James Bond? No one has topped Sean Connery in the role.

So yeah, there’s some pressure. But don’t worry. Dave’s still going to be an industry presence, and the magazine is going to be all the stronger. While our appearances may differ slightly, both Dave and I have the same commitment to you. I look forward to the opportunity to meet many of you in person at trade shows, association functions and industry meetings. I hope you’ll feel as comfortable telling me about your business as you have been with Dave over these many years. And, yes, Dave will begin writing a "publisher’s" column beginning with the March issue.

Speaking of learning about your business, I encourage you to join me and the Engine Builder staff at the PERA Marketing and Technical Seminars in Toronto, March 14-17 and the AERA New Products Showcase in Indianapolis, IN, April 19-20. The programs will include several hard-hitting educational sessions, marketing sessions to give you sales and management tools you’ll be able to apply immediately to your operations as well as informative technical programs.

In a tough economic climate, smart businesses don’t retreat, they look for as many opportunities as possible to grow. These programs offer a great chance to kick start your business year and drive it into the future.

Driving...hmm, what an opportunity to encourage you to enter our "Read For Speed" sweepstakes. In conjunction with Finish Line Racing School in Edgewater, FL, Engine Builder is giving away four free racing school programs over the next year.

There’s no cost to enter, nothing to mail in and no purchase is necessary. Just check out page 19 of this issue for all the details and then log onto www.engine-builder.com to enter the sweepstakes online.
