Revised Crankcase Breather Valve for 2002 Jaguar X-Type Engines

It has been revealed that the crankcase breather valve on certain 2002 Jaguar X-Type engine applications is wearing prematurely due to resonance in the pintle spring. This is caused by failure of the valve to operate in certain conditions. Initially the customer will experience engine noise and rough running, misfire, excess exhaust smoke, MIL lamp illumination and excessive oil consumption.

Check the crankcase breather valve, if the valve body is black, replace the current valve with a new improved design valve, p/n C2S 25648. If the crankcase breather valve body is green or grey no further action is required.

Caution: Failure to complete the repair this condition could lead to permanent engine damage.

REPLACING CRANKCASE BREATHER VALVE

1. Displace breather hose from breather valve.

2. Twist breather valve half a turn in the camshaft cover to release the breather valve.

3. Remove the breather valve from the camshaft cover.

4. Fit and align a new breather valve to the camshaft cover.

5. Secure the breather valve in the camshaft cover by twisting half a turn.

6. Align the breather valve elbow to the correct orientation.
