PERA Spring Technical Conference Wrap Up
Approximately 56 attendees representing 11 production engine remanufacturers (PERs), and 23 manufacturers and other suppliers attended the PERA Spring Technical Meeting in Charlotte, NC, March 18-20.
The Production Engine Remanufacturers Association (PERA) recently held its Spring Technical Meeting at the Hilton Charlotte University Place, Charlotte, NC, March 18-20. Approximately 56 attendees representing 11 production engine remanufacturers (PERs), and 23 manufacturers and other suppliers attended the event. Presentations on Alternative Fuels, Understanding Zinc in Engine Oils and a Comprehensive View of Synthetic Engine Oils were made by Bob Rodriguez of the Automotive Service Industry (ASE); Lake Speed Jr. of Joe Gibbs Racing Oil; and Mark Ferner of Shell Global Solutions, respectively.
Doug Anderson of Grooms Engines, Nashville, TN, also provided a PowerPoint presentation on all of the technical aspects and component parts involved in Rebuilding the Late Model Chrysler Hemi Engines, complete with photos and component identification and application information. CDs of the presentation were provided to all attendees. In addition to the detailed technical presentations, attendees were treated to guided tours of both the Richard Childress Racing and Hendrick Motorsports NASCAR race team facilities. Those in attendance were able to view everything from engine building and dyno testing to chassis and body fabrication operations of both race teams. More than a few engine remanufacturers and their suppliers also took advantage of an actual NASCAR drive along experience at the nearby Lowe’s Motor Speedway reaching speeds up to 170 mph.
The event was an excellently organized two days of detailed engine rebuilding information combined with unforgettable tours of two of the most storied race teams currently headlining NASCAR racing.
