External Wet Sump Pumps
Series of block-mounted external wet sump pumps replace the OEM units on late-model Modular Fords and GM LS engines
Unlike their predecessors, late model engines like the Modular Ford and GM LS-series, have crankshaft-driven oil pumps. Accordingly, these pumps are spinning twice as fast as the “old style” cam-driven oil pumps and tend to cavitate at speeds in excess of 6000 rpm causing a loss of oil pressure and starvation right when you need it the most!
To solve this problem, noted oil systems manufacturer Aviaid has introduced a series of block-mounted external wet sump pumps that replace the OEM units. The Aviaid pumps can be ordered with a variety of section widths and pulley combinations to ensure obtaining the optimum volume of lubricant in any desired rpm range.
Other benefits include the ability to utilize more efficient oil pan designs, and add extra sections to the pump to perform such tasks as scavenging a turbcharger or providing pressure for power steering.
In addition to the newly-developed block-mounted kits for LS-Series Chevy and 4.6/5.4L Modular Ford engines, Aviaid has a wide variety of “universal” mounts that will adapt an external pump to virtually any engine application.
Aviaid has been a leader in the development of high performance lubrication systems since 1961, and first gained notoriety as the supplier to Shelby for the Cobra and GT-40.
