Replacement Forged Pistons for 454-502 Chevy Engines
Replacement pistons available in a variety of bore sizes for both engines with increased compression ratios from the original 8.75:1.
The Chevrolet 454 and GM Performance Parts 502 cubic inch engines are mainstays of the street machine, drag race, dirt track, marine, street rodder aftermarket.
With the original 454 and 502 forgings no longer available, Diamond has not only introduced replacement pistons in a variety of bore sizes for both engines but also increased the compression ratios from the original 8.75:1.
Developed from 4032 alloy, the top ring land on both forgings is 0.300˝ down from the piston deck. However, the ring packs differ; the 454 manages 5/64˝ widths for the top and second rings, and a 3/16˝ oil control ring. The 502 uses 1/16˝, 1/16˝, and a 3/16˝ oil control ring. The depth of the inlet valve pocket for the 454 is 0.270˝ and 0.280˝ for the 502. No pocket is necessary for exhaust valve clearance.
Piston pins are Trend premium 8620 chrome-moly (case-hardened alloy steel); H-13 and 9310 endurance alloy pins are optional.
