Forty-nine States, 9 Days, 1 Good Cause

Dave Schaub of Los Gatos, CA, recently took on the challenge of covering 49 States in 9 days in a 1932 Ford Roadster, a feat that most said couldn't be done, to raise money for kids in need.

Dave's goal is to raise $100,000 in total for the Ronald McDonald House of Stanford, CA, and he is encouraging followers to get involved by donating as little as a penny per mile through his website, www.49in9.com.

When Roy Brizio of Brizio Street Rods called Vic Edelbrock and asked for Edelbrock's support in such a wonderful mission, Vic wholeheartedly agreed. Vic commented, "We built Roy and Dave an Edelbrock small-block Chevrolet crate engine to power Dave's "Brizio Built" '32 Ford Roadster. We chose to build them a Performer Hi-Torq, which features a new roller camshaft that delivers durability, great driving characteristics and good fuel mileage potential." As Dave blogged on day seven of his journey, "That's where the guys at Roy Brizio Street Rods as well as the Edelbrock crew came in. Thanks to them, the 49 in 9 Roadster is purring like a dream. Running an engine 16-18 hours straight daily takes a strain, but the engine built by the guys in the Edelbrock engine room is taking it and asking for more."

Dave completed his journey in exactly 8 days, 16 hours and 48 minutes, traveling from Needles, CA to Hyder, AK, touching 49 States in 9,856 miles. Dave shared that, "the actual mileage traveled door-to-door is 12,339, but the only number I'm counting at this point is the money raised. We're at $87,451.37 as of (September 23) and my trip and ultimate goal will not be realized until we raise the total to $100,000!"
