VAG 1342 Pressure Tester

Loss of Oil Pressure on Audi 2.8L Engines



Affects 2.8L V6 Engines with Engine Code AAH (All Model Years). Immediately after starting, the oil pressure warning light remains lit.

 

Condition
Immediately after starting, the oil pressure warning light remains lit.

Service

Measure oil pressure.

Vehicles with automatic transmission

Remove the oil cooler line bracket to provide clearance for connecting the VAG 1342 Pressure Tester.

All vehicles
Remove the 0.3 bar oil pressure switch (Figure 1). Install VAG 1342 oil pressure tester in place of the oil pressure switch “B” do NOT connect the wiring. Start the engine and let idle. Raise the engine speed to 2,000 rpm. Oil pressure must be 4.5 to 6.0 bar.

If the measurement is outside of the specification. Replace the engine oil pump. Inspect the front camshaft bearings on each cylinder head for possible damage (Figure 2). Repair or replace as necessary.

Inspect the crankshaft main, and rod bearings for possible damage (Figure 3). Repair or replace as necessary.
