Acura Integra Engine Extended Crank Time

There have been complaints that some Acura Integra (1986-1989) with 1.5L and 1.6L engines require extended cranking time to start after it has been shut off for 30 minutes or more.

PROBABLE CAUSE
The fuel pump check valve or the pressure regulator allows the residual fuel pressure to drop.

SOLUTION
Note: Check the residual fuel pressure before checking for other possible causes.

1. Relieve the fuel pressure as described in the service manual, then connect a fuel pressure gauge at the fuel filler.

2. Start the engine and run it for several seconds until the fuel pressure stabilizes.

3. Turn the engine off. The fuel pressure should stay at 30-35 psi forthe first five minutes andshould drop no more than 10 psi in the first 10 minutes. If the fuel pressure drops too fast, go to step 4. If the fuel pressure remains stable, consult the service manual for other engine or ignition-related causes of the symptom.

4. Restart the engine, then turn it off and lightly pinch the return hose from the pressure regulator. If the fuel pressure remains stable, replace the pressure regulator with the new part listed under

PARTS INFORMATION
If the fuel pressure still drops too last, replace the fuel pump.
