New Embossment Technology lets Gaskets Maintain Robust Seal Even in Extreme Cylinder Head Lift.
Engineers at Federal-Mogul Corporation (NASDAQ: FDML) have developed an innovative, high-strength dynamic embossment technology that dramatically increases the combustion sealing capabilities of market-leading Fel-Pro® PermaTorqueMLS® multi-layer-steel performance head gaskets.
The company’s new Flexstop™ embossment design enables PermaTorqueMLS performance head gaskets to maintain a robust seal even in cases of extreme cylinder head lift and other challenging engine dynamics.
Federal-Mogul’s Fel-Pro product team demonstrated the value of this exclusive technology in a pilot program with NASCAR Sprint Cup teams running the new Dodge R6 engine. The Flexstop-equipped PermaTorqueMLS performance gaskets (Fel-Pro p/n’s 26480 L and R) delivered flawless sealing performance during dyno testing and throughout the 2009 Sprint Cup season. Fel-Pro head gaskets sealed the winning engines in all 36 NASCAR Sprint Cup races last year.
The Flexstop technology adds a high-strength emboss feature that works in conjunction with the head gasket’s “stopper” layer to ensure robust sealing contact pressure in spite of extreme head lift caused by peak combustion pressures.
“By incorporating the Flexstop system into PermaTorqueMLS performance gaskets, we have dramatically expanded the capabilities of what already is the predominant head sealing solution in the racing category,” said Ron Rotunno, performance product manager, Fel-Pro Gaskets.
The Flexstop design originated within the Cylinder Head Gasket Engineering team at Federal-Mogul’s Burscheid, Germany, technical center.
