Cylinder Friction Measurement Tool
New Precision Tool Brings Science to the Art of Piston Ring Selection
The patent-pending Ring Pull is a unique precision analytical and diagnostic tool designed to accurately measure cylinder ring friction. It incorporates a digital load cell attached to an adjustable fixture designed to isolate and pull the ring through the cylinder (prior to piston-ring assembly), allowing a precise measurement of ring drag against the machined cylinder surface. The Ring Pull provides the accurate ring friction data serious engine builders need to determine proper cylinder ring selection and optimize engine performance.
The Ring Pull gives engine professionals the ability to:
Facilitate engine cylinder ring preparation prior to assembly, which aids in evaluating cylinder bore surface finishes (Ra, Rz, Rk, Rpk, Rvk taper)
Compare cylinder quality in the machining preparation stage
Accurately measure the consistency of cylinder ring manufacturing (verifying ring set)
Balance ring drag from cylinder to cylinder
Manage friction coefficients for build sheets
Analyze lubrication efficiency, and help predict engine temperatures
Measure all of the above with the torque plate installed, potentially exposing cylinder deficiencies prior to assembly
Diagnosing cylinder ring failure after usage
The standard Ring Pull kit includes:
Rugged lockable aluminum case (12 x 13 x 4 inches)
2.367 inch adjustable acrylic ring fixture (accommodates a minimum bore of 2.377)
3.500 inch adjustable acrylic ring fixture (accommodates a minimum bore of 3.510)
Digital load cell (12 lb. maximum capacity)
Pull rod
Piston pull fixture (12 lb. maximum capacity)
