Engine Pre-Lube System
Eliminate Dry Engine Starts On Modern Engines Using Portable Oiling System.
Melling's new pre-lube engine oil tank (p/n MPL-101) reduces the initial wear on engine components by eliminating the dry starts common after engine rebuilds. This design helps overcome the inability to prime the oiling system in today’s modern engine with the oil pump mounted over the crankshaft (priming older engines can easily be accomplished using other tools provided by Melling and a common drill to turn the pump and prime the system).
The tank, about half the size of a standard propane tank, will hold 4 quarts (maximum) of break-in engine oil. Usually 3 quarts is sufficient to pre-lube the engine. The tank is then pressurized using a shop air compressor.
The proper adaptor is installed on the engine and then connected to the hose from the tank. The fill valve is turned and in a very short period of time oil will be flowing from the valvetrain area of the engine, at which point the prime is complete. Fill the engine with oil, complete the build and start an engine that will live for a long time, without suffering from dry starts.
The tank includes a dipstick to check oil level and comes with the most popular two adaptors to fit most
engines: 1/8˝ x 1/8˝ and 1/8˝ x 1/4˝.
