Aurora 4000 Turbo Series Upgrades To Titanium Wheel
Titanium Compressor Wheel Plus Wastegate Makes This Turbo A Top Pick For Engine Builders
ATS Diesel’s Aurora 4000 Turbocharger has been a popular choice for many truck owners for both competition and street driving due to its midrange size and air output abilities. ATS has updated this turbo and it is now available with a titanium compressor wheel and wastegated housing to allow for boost output approaching 70 psi., at a flow rate of 1,190 cfm.
In order for the exhausted air from the engine to efficiently spin the wheels inside the turbo and create spool pressure, the wheels must be both lightweight and strong. While aluminum material accomplishes this, the Aurora 4000 has now been given a titanium wheel to provide maximum strength under-fire. High heat and incredible rotational force is exerted on the compressor and the new titanium metal option means that the Aurora will outperform its aluminum competition. After thousands of heat cycles the wheel will sustain its shape and avoid deflection and fatigue of the veins.
Tighter A/R geometry inside the turbo means that spool-up happens more quickly compared to a larger housing, but can also cause drive pressure to be outside of the desired range. By adding a wastegate to the Aurora 4000, the top-end excess air is allowed to bleed-off, and the turbo maintains optimal drive pressure for peak performance. The turbo’s owner can adjust the onboard wastegate to provide the perfect balance of power and security.
The engineering and proprietary components of the Aurora 4000 allow it to support power levels of 600 rear-wheel horsepower, while holding one of the industry's only warranties (3-year/150,000 miles).
