Ford 5.0L Pistons
New Forged Aluminum 'Platinum Series' Pistons for Ford Coyote & Raptor Engines
Leading engine components manufacturer Manley Performance
has expanded its “Plantinum Series” of premium forged aluminum pistons to
include applications for Ford’s new “Coyote” and “Raptor” V-8 engines.
Builders of 5.0L DOHC (4-valve) “Coyote” engines can take
advantage of pistons with an 11.5:1 static compression ratio (+6.75cc dome) or
9:1 (-12cc dish) that’s ideally suited for power-adders. They are offered in
3.630, 3.635 and 3.640˝ bore sizes for use with 3.650˝ stroke cranks
(5.933˝ rod length).
For the larger 6.2L “Raptor” engines (SOHC 2-valve) Manley
manufactures pistons for 11:1 (+7.5cc dome) and 9:1 (-12cc dish) applications.
They are available in 4.015˝ and 4.020˝ bore sizes and designed for
use with 3.740˝ stroke cranks and a rod length of 6.200˝
center-to-center.
As with other pistons in Manley’s “Platinum Series” lineup,
they are forged from highly regarded 2618 high strength alloy and are designed
to provide the necessary strength at minimum weight. Machining is done
exceptionally close tolerances and perfect ring groove to skirt squareness
(perpendicularity) is assured. An offset wrist pin design provides quiet
start-ups, and premium chrome moly wrist pins (with round wire locks) are
included. The pistons have a pressure balance groove and are designed to
accommodate +1mm larger valve sizes.
Manley Performance also manufactures stainless steel valves
in varying sizes for the “Coyote” and “Raptor” engines.
