Sunnen Products Company recently announced that it will focus on its precision bore sizing market (i.e., honing), and stop production of its VGS20 series of valve guide seat machines.
"For several years we have been reviewing our product line and making often difficult decisions as to what products fit into this category and which do not. This focus, coupled with increasing production costs and competitive pressures in the automotive cylinder head rework market, have led to the decision to stop production of the VGS20 series of valve guide seat machines," said Phil Hanna, global products manager. "We currently have planned 11 remaining machines to build. The tooling for these machines will continue to be produced. A brochure will be released with the tooling and accessories which will continue to be offered. In addition, customers will be supported with repair parts per our 10 year policy. Sunnen will continue to support the automotive performance and engine rebuild markets in the area of bore sizing with the LBB, CH100, SV10, SV310 and related tooling and abrasives. We consider the automotive bore sizing market to be a key market globally and will continue to actively pursue this business."
Sunnen believes this decision will help the company better focus its energies and resources towards providing innovative solutions to its customers’ bore sizing needs and to further stand apart from the competition. Hanna said it was a diffiucult decision for Sunnen to make but is encourged by the support it has received from customers.
