Wards Auto
has announced its 10 best engines of 2010, and the underlying theme this year was fuel economy. Focusing on fuel efficiency, Ward’s
picked engines that allowed customers to downsize without sacrificing engine power.
Following the less-is-more theory, six of the ten engines
selected were turbocharged or supercharged, and two were hybrids. Also
included was a four-cylinder engine found in the Chevrolet Equinox that Ward’s testers achieved 30 mpg in. A V8
from the Hyundai Genesis sedan was chosen, giving a nod to an era when
carmakers could forget about gas mileage and put a V8 into everything.
Volkswagen along with its luxury brand Audi had three engines in the top 10. VW also had one of the two diesels
that placed on the list this year, along with BMW.
