Race & Performance Expo Wrap-Up

The Race & Performance Expo kicked off Friday, March 5 with the manufacturer’s Mardi Gras party that included a round table talk with Vic Edelbrock, Tim Freeman and Jim Bingham about the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge program. The evening concluded with a tribute and award presentation to Theresa and Amanda Gabriel, the wife and daughter of the recently deceased Mr. Sunday, Jan Gabriel. The Jan C. Gabriel award will be presented annually by the Race & Performance Expo to recognize the dedication of an individual or company that has demonstrated commitment to the performance automotive aftermarket – leading by example and service.

The 3rd Annual Race & Performance Expo opened Saturday March 6, with Jim Bingham, Rick Moroso and Vic Edelbrock look on as Jan Gabriel’s wife Theresa and daughter Amanda cut the opening ceremonial ribbon. Thousands of hard core racing fans and buyers walked through the gates as manufacturers and exhibitors were worked hard to meet, greet, sell and answer all of their questions. All the attendees had opportunities learn about and purchase all the new products that the exhibitors were displaying. Racers, engine builders, fabricators and most everyone in the racing industry enjoyed the high quality performance products that the exhibitors were showing.

With seminars covering topics such as “How to Select the Right Carburetor,” "Secrets of Cylinder Head Porting and Air Flow" and "Proper Ignition Component Selection” the seminar rooms were packed! Make sure next year to get to the seminar rooms early and get a seat!

There was a record high 17 high school auto tech teams competing Saturday and Sunday for the Division 3 Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge Championship. Team PRW- Fremd High School from Palatine, IL, won the event with a time of 44:15 and will be going to the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge National Championship dubbed the “Showdown at SEMA” at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas in November of this year.
