Total Seal has announced new 2.0mm Rectangular High Speed Steel (HSS) Top rings for Diesel aftermarket high performance pistons. Rectangular rings offer superior ring seal and decreased blow-by when compared to OE style Keystone rings.
This is especially important when increased piston to wall clearance is required which is common in high output applications. As piston to wall clearance increases, blow-by typically increases when using a Keystone style ring. This can lead to ring land / piston torching, which is common in these applications and ring style. Rectangular rings do not suffer from this problem and are the preferred design when creating an aftermarket “custom” piston for this Diesel high performance application. If purchasing an aftermarket piston be sure they will accommodate the new HSS 2.0mm top ring from Total Seal.
