Chevrolet Announces 7.0L LS7 Crate Engine

Chevrolet has announced it will be making an enhanced version of its 7.0L LS7 engine available in crate form. GM says the new LS427/570 engine offers more horsepower than the standard unit, coupled with increased ease of installation, thanks to a wet-sump lubrication system.

A new, high-lift camshaft developed specifically for this engine helps produce a GM-estimated 570bhp and 540 lb.-ft. of torque, an increase of 65bhp and 70 lb.-ft. over the regular-production engine. Meanwhile the new wet-sump oiling system eliminates the need for the installer to incorporate a separate oil tank, oil lines and other ancillary components to support the production LS7’s dry-sump system.

Other features of the crate motor include a high-lift, hydraulic roller camshaft with 0.591˝ intake and 0.590˝ exhaust lift, a 227° intake/242° exhaust valve duration, coupled with a lobe separation angle of 116°. This camshaft is coupled with dedicated high-rate valve springs.

The rotating assembly consists of a forged steel crank with titanium connecting rods while gas exchange takes place in the CNC-ported heads, fitted with titanium valves (sodium filled on the exhaust).

Ancillaries include exhaust manifolds from the fifth-generation Camaro Z/28 and the low-profile LS7 EFI inlet manifold, completed with fuel rails and injectors. GM notes that the engine must be used with its LS427/570 ECU.
