It’s tough to get things done when your garage or shop is more like a dark tunnel than a properly lit work space. An easy way to make your work space a safe space is by installing Summit LED shop lights.
LED shop lights are better than fluorescent lights. They turn on instantly, provide brighter, more even light, use less power, and with no bulbs to replace, they save you money.
To determine how many lights you need, you need to know how much light is required to illuminate your shop. Assuming the lights will be mounted at an eight-foot ceiling height, you will need a minimum of 100 lumens of light per square foot.
Measure your work space, then determine square footage by multiplying length by the width. Multiply that number by 100 to get the lumen output you need to illuminate that space.
Here’s an example based on a typical 20 by 20 foot two-car garage:
- 20′ x 20′ = 400 square feet
- 400 x 100 = 40,000 lumens
Using Summit Racing LED Shop Lights rated at 4,500 lumens each, you’ll need nine lights for your garage (40,000/4,500 = 8.88).
