Wards Names its Annual 10 Best Engines

For the first time in 23 years of testing, a V8 fails to earn a spot on the list, but many of the high-output turbocharged 6-cyl. engines in the competition, even some that didn’t make the cut, generate enough horsepower and torque to fill the void. Two of the honorees are return winners.

Rebuilding the 5.7L HEMI

Back in the early ’90s, when Chrysler realized that it would need a new truck motor to replace its 318/360 Magnum engines to meet the coming emissions standards, the company considered two pushrod engines along with one SOHC design and concluded that a pushrod motor with a pair of Hemi heads that really breathed would make a great truck engine and could still be used in its cars. This is how the 5.7L Gen III Hemi was born in 2003.

Edelbrock E-CNC Heads For S/B Chrysler

These heads are for use on 1967-1991, 318-360 c.i.d. Chrysler LA engines. They feature fully CNC intake, exhaust ports, combustion chamber and have an intake port volume of 225cc.

Hemi Legend Tom Hoover Passes Away at 85

The man credited as the “Father of the Hemi,” who also helped develop the Max Wedge, the 1970 Plymouth AAR ‘Cuda, and the 1978 Dodge Li’l Red Express truck, has died. Tom Hoover, who joined Chrysler in 1955, passed away on April 30 after a long illness. He was 85.

Engine Builder’s Chrysler 392 Magnum V8 Engine on ebay

Engine Builder magazine’s Chrysler 392 Magnum V8 engine will be back up for auction on eBay Motors in 2015. This Chrysler 318 turned 392 Magnum produces 477 HP at 5800 RPM and 481 lb. feet of torque. The auction is running right now and will be open to anyone in the U.S. Proceeds will benefit the Independence Fund.

Chrysler Group Announces New Company Name – FCA US LLC

Chrysler Group LLC, the Auburn Hills, Michigan-based automaker, has announced that it has changed its company name to FCA US LLC. The name change is effective immediately and follows the naming convention of its global parent company, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. (FCA), which officially adopted its new name in October when it listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
