Racing to Return to North Wilkesboro Speedway

Speedway Motorsports has announced that, for the first time in over a decade, racing will return to North Wilkesboro Speedway, the .625-mile short oval in Wilkes County, North Carolina.

Called “Racetrack Revival,” a multi-week grassroots racing event will be produced by XR Events and feature several classes on the asphalt track in August. Officials will then convert the surface to dirt for a stretch of racing in October, followed by a re-pavement in 2023.

“As we begin the process of bringing North Wilkesboro Speedway back to life, this is a great opportunity for the historic short track to host grassroots racing and allow our team to learn more about what needs to be done before a grand reopening in the future,” said Speedway Motorsports President and CEO Marcus Smith.

Super late models, street stocks, pro late models, limited late models, open wheel modifieds, late model stocks, and Hornets are expected to participate in the asphalt swing of events, while super late models, 410 sprints, big block modifieds, street stocks, open wheel modifieds, 602 crate late models, 604 crate late models, stock cars, and Hornets are expected for the dirt portion.

In addition, Speedway Motorsports is working with state and county officials to utilize an $18 million American Rescue Plan budget allocation earmarked for infrastructure improvements at the nearly 75-year-old facility.
