Engine Builder magazine has announced its annual Engine of the Year for 2022 – a 582 cid big block Chevy engine – built by Jesse Havlik of Hot Rods by Havliks in Cedar Rapids, IA. Jesse Havlik and his team accepted the award at Engine Builder’s PRI Party, sponsored by Autolite, at Tin Roof in Indianapolis on December 7.
For the sixth consecutive year, Engine Builder magazine presented its Engine of the Year award, which stems from the Engine of the Week series, sponsored by PennGrade1, Elring Das Original, NPW Companies, and Engine & Performance Warehouse Inc. Out of the more than 50 engines profiled in the series each year, a Top 10 engines are chosen by Engine Builder’s readers and social media audience for a chance to be crowned Engine of the Year.
The nominees for 2022 were:
- 598 cid Big Block Chevy Triple Carb Drag Engine built by M&M Race Cars & Competition Engines in Gleason, TN
- Twin-Turbo 512 cid Big Block Chevy Engine built by Alex Taylor Racing in Booneville, AR
- 355 Small Block Chevy Demolition Derby Engine built by Baldwin Racing Engines in Friedheim, MO
- 4.8” Billet Hemi Engine built by Noonan Race Engineering in Spartanburg, SC
- ProCharged 7.3L Ford Godzilla Engine built by Willis Performance Enterprises in Willis, MI
- 702 cid Big Block Chevy Boat Engine built by Rich Franzman Race Engines in Lake Havasu City, AZ
- 427 Small Block Chevy Engine built by Ohio Crankshaft in Greenville, OH
- 582 cid Big Block Chevy Engine built by Hot Rods by Havliks in Cedar Rapids, IA
- Hydrogen-Powered, Zero Emissions, LS3 Engine built by Arrington Performance / Diversified Creations in Brighton, MI
- 709 cid Naturally Aspirated Billet Hemi Engine built by Goodwin Competition in Ormo, WI
These Top 10 engines were pitted against one another in a two-week voting contest on Engine Builder’s website, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages, with the winner claiming the crown of Engine of the Year, which includes bragging rights and a custom trophy built by Cold Hard Art.
