Tick Performance is Under New Ownership

Tick Performance, a performance parts manufacturer, has new ownership. New owners Joey Anderson and Matt Goins plan to continue manufacturing premium, American-made components at Tick’s North Carolina headquarters, picking up right where founder and former owner, Johnny Atkins, left off.

In 2004, Johnny Atkins founded Tick Performance with his son and most recent owner, Jonathan Atkins. Johnny cashed his retirement savings to start the company, specializing in T-56/TR-6060 performance and making a name for themselves with F-body enthusiasts.

“I have been with Tick Performance for 19 years,” Jonathan says. “We bought an old, used lift, and my dad and I installed it in a 30×40 rented section of a building and went to work. It wasn’t easy.”

Matt Goins (left) and Joey Anderson (right) are the new co-owners of Tick Performance. The two were employees No. 1 and No. 2 when Johnny Atkins founded the business.

In 2007, they hired their first employee, Joey Anderson, followed by Matt Goins. “For years, I watched them both work their knuckles bloody for peanuts in pay, grinding and doing all they could to make their small business dream a reality,” Anderson says about Johnny and Jonathan. “They didn’t just lead by example at work, but in life too.”

Goins is the company’s lead product engineer and has developed many of Tick’s current products. Anderson developed the company’s first e-commerce site and has been a driving force in establishing the brand. The two joined forces as a 50/50 split to purchase the company from Atkins.

“I’m proud of the men and leaders they have become while at Tick, and I have no doubt they will continue to grow the company by making awesome products as always and treating people right,” Jonathan says.

Tick Performance plans to expand into more offerings, with new Dodge and Corvette applications coming this year. “Everyone here is a racer and we’re all proud to be American,” Goins says. “We want to offer customers premium parts made by American hands and support our community. We’re working hard, moving forward, and listening to our customers.”

While Tick Performance continues to expand, Atkins wants to sharpen his focus on racing and engine development. The company will continue its involvement in the GrubbWorm Camaro, and Atkins will remain close. Atkins, who has been building engines as a part of the Tick Performance Competition Engines program, will continue his work with JA Competition Engines, a dealer of Tick Performance products.

“Without God, the great employees at Tick and our great customers, I’d be nothing,” Atkins says. “It was a blessing and honor to lead Tick into my 40th year on this Earth, and now it’s time to slow down, downsize a bit, do what I love, and live a little more.”
