DEI-Bill-Herrmann-256x300Design Engineering Inc. (DEI) has announced that Bill Herrmann has joined as vice president of operations. He joined the company in late June and will report directly to Design Engineering Inc. CEO David Markley. Herrmann has more than 30 years of experience in industrial and chemical distribution, as well as chemical and food manufacturing. He has spent most of his career within the supply chain procurement, logistics, forecasting, operations management and inventory control disciplines.

Commenting on the appointment, Markley said, “Design Engineering Inc. has been experiencing a solid pattern of growth for many years. After our facility expansion in 2012, we realized that there are process improvements that can be implemented to help us handle inventory, warehouse and shipping procedures more efficiently, as well as processes to better anticipate our forecasted increases in demand. Bill has a broad experience set that makes him the ideal candidate for this position; especially in his ability to develop a solid team centered on the common goals. We look forward to his contribution to the company and implementing new ideas that will help us better serve our customers.”

Prior to joining Design Engineering Inc., Herrmann worked in positions of director of operations, supply chain manager, director of logistics and supply chain/product manager respectively at Palmer Holland, Sandridge Food Corp. and Lubrizol/Noveon. In these positions, he worked as a senior management team member that minimized asset risk, improved communication and brought new and innovative approaches to the companies’ warehouse and service networks.

Herrmann graduated from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in management. He started his career at Applied Industrial Technologies/iSource Performance Materials.

Markley added, “Bill’s expertise in purchasing, planning, warehousing and operations will help Design Engineering Inc. continue to meet (and exceed) our customers’ expectations of great service and product delivery; keystones we’ve built our business upon. This year marks two decades of Design Engineering Inc. expansion and growth in terms of product lines, staffing and space. It is very timely that on our 20th anniversary that we are able to bring someone on board with Bill’s level of experience to guide us for decades to come. We are very excited he has joined our team.”
