HUBB Filters has announced that its breakthrough performance filter has earned a Gold Award in the 2016 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) Competition, an initiative of the International Design Society of America (IDSA). The judging is based upon design innovation, benefit to the user, benefit to the client, benefit to society and appropriate aesthetics. The HUBB filter was awarded the Gold medal because it offers a significant environmental advantage by replacing conventional disposable automotive oil filters with an all-metal dual-filter washable unit that lasts a lifetime and avoids the need to dispose of used filters in landfills.

“Winning the gold in the IDEA awards is a significant endorsement for the benefits that HUBB offers to motorists and to the environment,” said Christopher Hubbard, the company’s founder and chief scientist. “I am grateful for the help Whipsaw provided in commercializing my design.” Hubbard spent years in researching, developing and testing his filter and was helped in the commercialization process by Whipsaw, an industrial design and engineering firm based in San Jose, Calif.

According to Hubbard, the HUBB all-metal filter provides unprecedented engine protection, cost savings and environmental benefits. It is backed by the industry’s first 100,000-mile performance guarantee.

“It was a tough contest and we were up against 1,700 other projects from more than 30 countries,” said CEO Scott Killips. “We are thrilled that the international design community appreciates the HUBB filter’s unique design and sees its potential for the motoring public and society in general,” he said.

To back its claims of superior filtration, engine health protection, extended oil change intervals, and reduced carbon emissions, HUBB has undergone independent third party testing by Automotive Testing and Development Services, Inc. (ATDS) as well as extensive field testing with customers.

HUBB has received several other product design awards for their filters including the GOOD DESIGN award from the prestigious Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and Metropolitan Arts Press Ltd. and a first place in the 2015 Spark Product Design Awards.
