Gator Fasteners from Summit Racing Equipment

Keep things together in your Cummins, Duramax, or Powerstroke diesel with Gator Fasteners head studs, main cap studs, and rod bolts. Made from 8740 chromoly steel, the fasteners are heat-treated before the threads are rolled. That provides optimum fatigue strength. The fasteners are also centerless ground for dimensional accuracy and a secure fit.

Designed for stock to moderately built engines, Gator Fasteners Head Studs are rated at 220,000 PSI of tensile strength so they won’t stretch like the factory head bolts. That means the studs can provide the clamping force needed to keep cylinder heads from lifting due to higher combustion pressures. 12-point chromoly steel nuts, parallel-ground washers, and assembly lube are included.

Rated at 190,000 PSI of tensile strength, a Gator Fasteners Main Stud Kit can handle the increased loads created by high performance upgrades, preventing the main caps from walking. That movement allows the caps to actually elongate and alter their dimensions. That distorts main bearing oil clearances to the point that the crank can flex enough to cause the bearings to fail.  Chromoly steel nuts, parallel-ground washers, and assembly lube are included.

Rod bolts in your Duramax diesel are subject to some horrendous pressures. As the crankshaft rotates, the big ends of the connecting rods become oval shaped and go back to round again, forcing the bolts to bend and stretch. That alternating of tension loading and cyclic bending increases as cylinder pressure increases. At some point, the pressure becomes too great and the factory rod bolts will simply snap.

A Gator Fasteners Heavy-Duty Rod Bolt Kit can handle the stress. The bolts are rated at 200,000 PSI of tensile strength to resist stretching and have a 12-point cap screw head. The kit fits 2001-10 6.6L Duramax engines.
