2011 SEMA Show Wrap-Up: COMP, Motor State Take Home Awards

SEMA presented John Menzler of the COMP Performance Group with the 2011 Person of the Year Award at the SEMA Show Industry Awards Banquet in Las Vegas.

As a long-time SEMA member, Hot Rod Industry Association (HRIA) Select Committee member and mentor to many in the industry, he received ringing applause from the packed house in attendance.

Banquet emcee Dave McClelland took time to highlight Menzler’s contributions to the industry, making it clear that his compassion and advice helped solve problems both in his work at Comp Performance and in his numerous volunteer projects.

Motor State Distributing was honored at this year’s SEMA Show with the Warehouse Distributor of the Year Award.  The company began in 1964 in founder George Lane’s small garage and still follows many of its guiding principles from when it began such as fair pricing, quality parts, and prompt, courteous service.

This year’s Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge teams finished their builds in the fastest times ever recorded in the event’s three-year history. All 10 teams competing at the 2011 SEMA Show, November 1-4, in Las Vegas, finished faster than the 2009 champion and the top six teams would have beaten the 2010 champion. Team Moroso of Loara High School from Anaheim, CA, won the "Showdown at SEMA" with a record-breaking time of 21:08 minutes.

There’s still time to win the Ed Pink auction engine that was built using parts from SEMA member companies. The companies have come together in support of a unique project to benefit the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund (SMSF). Their products have been used to build a big-inch small-block Ford engine that’s currently up for auction on eBay.

Ongoing information about the engine being auctioned to benefit the SMSF and the eBay auction can be found at http://is.gd/?SEMAauctions.
