Engine Builder’s 2020 America’s Best Engine Shop Winners

Engine Builder has announced the three winners of its 2020 America’s Best Engine Shops contest, which is broken out into three categories – race, vintage and diesel. The three winners, Late Model Engines (Race), D&J Precision Machine (Diesel) and Precision Engine Machine Co. (Vintage), accepted their awards virtually this year.

Late Model Engines in Houston are the Race category winners in the 2020 America’s Best Engine Shops contest.

The Engine Builder brand has always made it a priority to recognize the hard work and amazing talents of engine builders. In fact, over the past eight years, the brand has placed the spotlight on dozens of successful engine builders who exemplify the key attributes of a well-run business.

Precision Engine Machine Co. in Hyattsville, MD is the Vintage category winner in the 2020 America’s Best Engine Shops contest.

This year, the America’s Best Engine Shops contest aimed to find the best engine shops out there operating in three different categories – Race, Vintage and Diesel. The contest, which is judged by a panel of industry experts and members of Engine Builder, look for shops that: celebrate creativity and innovation; encourage training and education; emphasize marketing, merchandising and promotion; maintain professional standards and conduct; take pride in appearance, business management, community involvement, business growth, achievement, and victories.

D&J Precision Machine in Cambridge, OH is the Diesel category winner in the 2020 America’s Best Engine Shops contest.

To give engine builders some well-deserved credit, people were asked to nominate worthy shops for the award or shops could nominate themselves. After sifting through hundreds of engine shop nominations, it was Late Model Engines, owned by Bryan Neelen and Pecos Loughlin in Houston that won the Race category; D&J Precision Machine, owned by Drew Pumphrey in Cambridge, OH, that won the Diesel category; and Precision Engine Machine Co., owned by Jan, Michael and Branden Norris in Hyattsville, MD, that won the Vintage category. Each of these shops proved to be among the elite in their respective categories. More information can be found on these shops in Engine Builder’s December 2020 issue.
