changing times within the performance and tuning industry, the SEMA
Board of Directors announced that the Sport-Compact Council (SCC) will
now be officially known as the Street Performance Council (SPC). The
name change will help to include the diverse street-performance
industry, which creates a broader market and provides new growth and
educational opportunities for the council.
SPC Chairman Eric Breslow commented, "As SEMA itself has expanded
to include different facets of the automotive aftermarket, the
street-performance parts manufacturers and distributors didn’t have an
exclusive council representing their interests. Some gravitated to the
Sport-Compact Council, but with our new name, member benefits and
initiatives, we welcome those diverse companies with open arms."
Through the support and efforts of the SEMA board, committee and
staff members, in adapting to the volatile economy today, the inclusion
of the street-performance sector will bring new knowledge and expertise
and enable the council to better serve its members. With a greater
diversity of members, there will be a more collective effort to
generate effective strategies to ensure prosperity for the Street
Performance market segment.
The council was formed in 2002.
