The Michigan Senate included language in SB-0185 that said, “In order to reduce costs and maintain quality, it is the intent of the legislature that, excluding the fleet of motor vehicles for the department of State police, the department will prioritize the utilization of remanufactured parts as the primary means of maintenance and repair for the state of Michigan’s fleet of motor vehicles.” According to the office of Senator John Pappageorge, sponsor of SB-0185, the language is still intact in the House, awaiting approval.
APRA Chief Operating Officer and lifelong Michigan resident, Mark Kothe said, “It is great to see the Michigan Senate adopting language to encourage the purchase of remanufactured parts in their state vehicles to save taxpayer dollars. As a result of their action, they will also end up creating well needed jobs in Michigan and helping the environment.” Kothe added, “After all, remanufacturing is the ultimate form of recycling.”
APRA has encouraged the Michigan House to adopt the language in SB-0185 as well.
