Correct Tensioner Spring Installation on 2001-’05 Honda Civic 1.7L Engines

Engine builders must install the spring by facing the hook away from the timing belt.

When installing a timming belt kit on a 2001-’05 Honda Civic 1.7L engine, it’s crucial that the tensioner spring be installed correctly onto the tensioner.

If it’s improperly installed, the open end of the spring hook can catch on the timing belt, possibly leading to severe engine damage.

The open end of the spring hook must be installed on the tensioner so that it is facing away from the belt and toward the engine block.

The spring, which is included in the kit, should be replaced along with the all other timing components. Use of the old spring will void the kit warranty.

Factors of Crankshaft Selection

From the high-performance powerplants propelling Top Fuel dragsters to the subdued engines found in family sedans and grocery getters, each crank must be tailored to, and appropriate for, its specific application.

We know a crankshaft plays a critical role in an engine’s performance, converting reciprocating motion into rotary motion while serving as the backbone of the entire system. It must be strong enough to withstand the continuous pounding of rods and pistons, yet possess enough elasticity to absorb vibrations and flex, albeit slightly, when needed.
