Nissan’s Titan to Employ a 5.6L Endurance V8 Gas Engine

Nissan has announced that a new 5.6-liter Endurance V8 gasoline engine will be available in the all-new Titan and Titan XD full-size pickup trucks. The engine features four-valves per cylinder, Variable Valve Event & Lift and Direct Injection, and is rated at 390 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 401 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm.

Engine Bearings Under Pressure

Today’s hi-flow, aftermarket, CNC-ported cylinder heads, high lift killer cams and induction system power adders (blowers, turbos and nitrous) are making more power than ever before, and really hammering the bottom end of the engine. If the bearings can’t take it, the engine won’t last.

Keep the Valvetrain on Track

The key to choosing the right valvetrain components is to match the parts to the application. It sounds simple enough, yet many valvetrain component suppliers tell us there are a lot of misconceptions about what kind of parts are best for different kinds of performance applications.

FUELAB Fuel Delivery Systems for 1994-1998 Dodge Cummins 12 Valve Engines

FUELAB Velocity In-Line High Performance Lift Pumps are now available for 1994-1998 Dodge Cummins 12 Valve Engines. Velocity pumps supply the increased fuel demands of engines modified for more power, and are offered in 200 GPH or 100 GPH versions.

Five Fuel Events That Happen In Common Rail Direct Injection

Common rail injection for mid-size trucks has been around for nearly 15 years. While many owners appreciate the quietness and dependability of their diesel engines, many have no clue as to what changes have taken place to the fuel system in order to not only make their diesel perform, but also be emissions-compliant.

How Oil Change Habits Are Killing Turbos

Turbochargers are used to enhance an engine’s performance and optimize combustion. To achieve good and complete combustion in the engine, a mixture ratio of 2.2 lbs. fuel and approximately 33 lbs. air is necessary (stoichiometric fuel ratio). During turbocharging, the density of the intake air is elevated and the air volume increased. The volumetric efficiency

Mahle Original Turbochargers

Designed to enhance performance, reduce fuel consumption and lower exhaust emissions, MAHLE Original turbochargers are available for high-performance and high fuel-economy diesel and gasoline engines.

Liners and Sleeves

Sleeves are certainly not new technology and experts say that, for the most part, engine builders and machine shops understand the use and functionality well. But is a liner and a sleeve the same thing? Is a hole just a hole? Publisher/Editor Doug Kaufman takes a deeper dive.

FUELAB Prodigy In-Tank Power Modules

FUELAB Prodigy In-Tank Power Modules bring the company’s external fuel pump technology inside the fuel tank. Developed for racing and capable of street use, these fuel systems can provide fuel for up to 1800HP.

Hypermax Intercooler System

The proprietary design of the Hypermax intercooler utilizes a taper sided core to maximize flow capacity within the confines of the vehicle.

Carburetor and EFI Conversions

Carburetors have long served the performance aftermarket and racing industry well. Although they disappeared from new vehicles back in the late 1980s to meet emission requirements, it was only a couple of years ago that NASCAR finally abandoned carburetors in favor of fuel injection.

The Complexities of Modern Timing

Let’s face it: timing used to be relatively easy. These days, however, as with most every other engine component, the technology and innovation that leads to more fuel efficiency and performance also means increased complexity with timing components.

Motor Oil Issues

One of the challenges of building engines for a living is making sure that every engine you build has good oil pressure and suffers no lubrication-related issues once it goes out the door. Good oil pressure requires main and rod bearing clearances that are within your target specs for the application, a good oil pump and the “right” motor oil.

Volkswagen’s 1.4L Engine Reinforces Turbocharged, Direct Injection Technology

The 1.4-liter gasoline engine is one of Volkswagen’s latest EA211 series of small engines. This features lightweight aluminum construction, an integrated (into the head) exhaust manifold, and a toothed-belt drive for its double overhead camshaft valvetrain that incorporates variable intake and exhaust timing.

Machine Shop Market Profile

As we move through our 51st year of covering this industry, the staff of Engine Builder recognizes that old adage – the more things change, the more they stay the same. What’s changed about this industry is, well, pretty much everything. What’s stayed the same is the dedication and hardwork of the professionals who keep engines running and customers happy.

AMSOIL European Car Formula 0W-40 Synthetic Motor Oil

AMSOIL INC. has expanded its European Car Formula line to include AMSOIL European Car Formula 0W-40 Full-SAPS Synthetic Motor Oil. This full-SAPS 0W-40 viscosity for European applications is engineered to deliver maximum protection and performance while improving fuel economy.

Vanishing V8s: Downsizing Engines

The V8 isn’t dead yet, but storm clouds are brewing on the horizon. Concerns over global warming, CO2 emissions and dependence on foreign oil led the EPA to mandate new Corporate Average Fuel Economy rules. To achieve 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025, automakers may abandon the V8 altogether or restricting it to a handful of limited production applications.

Shop Solutions June 2015

I recycle the thick plastic trays used to store and ship 1-liter soda bottles. They work really well for keeping piston and rod assemblies in order and protected from damage as you move them about the shop.
